Ilya Kovalchuk Signs 17-Year Deal

No folks you have not misread the title, nor has the length of the deal been confused with Ilya Kovalchuk’s jersey number; but the New Jersey Devils have actually signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17 year deal worth over $100 Million. Kovalchuk is currently 27 years of age and if he plays the full length of this contract, he will be playing until he is 44 years old.

New Jersey Devils Cup Predictions

Currently the Bodog.com online sportsbook has future betting odds at 15/1 for the New Jersey Devils to win the Stanley Cup next season. My betting predictions are that the Devils will make the playoffs, but signing one guy who can only score in the regular season is not going to be enough to go far into the playoffs. For the last two decades the New Jersey Devils have been known for their defensive play so a major signing like this for an offensive player is a bit out of character. Who knows, maybe the Devils are hoping that Ilya can convince Lebron James and Chris Bosh to also sign with the Devils.

Only time will tell how this big signing pans out, but it should be fun watching!
