NHL Contracts

The NHL this week is taking a hard look at long term contracts after the Ilya Kovalchuk debacle. As you may have heard, the NHL rejected Ilya Kovalchuk’s 17-year, $100 million contract. Arbitrators agreed that the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk were trying to exploit a loophole in the NHL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Now, the NHL is reviewing all the major contracts from the last year.

Roberto Luongo Contract Details

The NHL has stated that the Vancouver Canuck’s contract signing of Roberto Luongo is under investigation. Roberto Luongo signed a 12 year contract which has him earning $10 million this upcoming season, and has him only earning $3 million in his last 3 years combined. The NHL believes that this heavily front-loaded contract is no different than what the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk were attempting to pull. Nobody has said what is going to come of all this, but rumors are speculating that Ilya Kovalchuk may sign the same exact deal with a Russian team in the KHL which would be detrimental to the NHL.

Karl Malone Hall of Fame

The NBA just recently announced the induction of Karl Malone into the NBA Hall of Fame. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Springfield Massachusetts. In his career, Karl Malone, scored 36,928 points and pulled down 14,968 rebounds during his impressive 19-year playing career. If it wasn’t for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, Karl Malone would have won a few championships too. Also, if Kobe Bryant would have not played like a spoiled brat, Karl Malone could have won a championship with the Lakers too.

NBA News

Other NBA Hall of Fame inductees include Scottie Pippen who has recently been trying to make his way back into the NBA as a player. In addition to lame attempts by Pippen to join an NBA team, Pippen was recently caught trying to make a bet with Nick VanGundy that the Miami Heat would not even win 72 games this upcoming NBA season. As you can imagine, these types of negative haven’t won Pippen many points by current NBA players.

Shaq Celtics

Just when you thought it was safe to leave your home, Shaquille O’Neal signs with the Boston Celtics for not 1, but 2 years! In a move that pretty much came out of nowhere, the Boston Celtics signed Shaq for 2 NBA betting seasons. When I first heard of the news, I had to check the date to make sure it was not April 1st.

Just a few days ago Shaq was talking with European basketball teams in hopes of moving over there to play basketball, but then out of nowhere, with no rumors or speculations in place, Shaq Diesel signed with the Boston Celtics. Prior to the signing, many NBA betting followers believed it would be a Miami Heat vs. LA Lakers final, but now people are starting to believe that the Miami Heat may have trouble getting out of the Eastern Conference with a tougher looking Boston Celtics lineup.

Tiger Woods News

Tiger Woods is looking like an expired Russian hooker these days whose best years appear behind him. It seems that in just over 1 year, Tiger Woods has aged 10. Honestly I believe that Tiger Woods is an amazing athlete and it’s disappointing to see his fall from grace, a fall that had nothing to do with cheating in golf, steroids, or only playing on courses that are to his advantage. No, unfortunately Tiger Wood’s fall from the top was because of something he did in his personal life which the public and media are crucifying him for.

Tiger Woods Betting Odds

Next up for Tiger is the USPGA Championship 2010, Whistling Straits, Kohler, Wisconsin. This tournament will begin on Thursday, August 12th. The Sportsbook.com online sportsbook currently has Tiger Woods favored at 12/1 betting odds to win, behind Phil Mickelson who is sitting at 11/1 betting odds. If Tiger Woods wants to turn things around, this is surely the tournament to do so.

Alex Rodriguez 600 Homeruns

After sitting at 599 homeruns for a few at bats, Alex Rodriguez finally hit his 600th all time homerun last night, becoming the youngest player to ever hit 600 homeruns in the majors. All this was done at Yankee Stadium no less.

Alex Rodriguez Steroids

Say what you want about this steroid infused crybaby, but this is a very impressive feat. My hat goes off to both Rodriguez and the guy who puts the steroids needle in his buttocks. But in all seriousness (no pun intended), this is a very big accomplishment and I am impressed. It takes more than strength to hit a homerun, which is what the use of steroids only provides you with. Steroids do not increase your concentration, accuracy or ability to read the pitcher, so being the youngest player to ever hit 600 homeruns in the majors is huge.

The Bodog.com online sportsbook currently has A-Rod and the Yankees favored at +185 betting odds to win the World Series which almost feels like a lock right now.

NBA Schedule Released

Although we are more than 4 months away from Christmas, I feel that with the recent NBA betting schedule being released today, Christmas came early! Only key nationally broadcasted schedules were released, however those are only the games I care about to be honest.

NBA Opening Week

The first game of the season will have the Boston Celtics’s top 3 versus the Miami Heat’s top 3. This game will be played in Boston on Tuesday, October 26th. You have to love the way the NBA customizes their schedule, instead of just letting a robot do it.

NBA Christmas Day Games

If today felt like Christmas for NBA betting fans, then actual Christmas day is going to feel like Heaven for any NBA online betting fan looking for some action. The NBA has announced 5 games will be played on Christmas day and the game that we have all been waiting for, Lakers versus the Heat will be the third game of the day after the Celtics and Magic game. Talk about 12 straight hours of NBA betting action!
